Noise Pollution : A Silent Killer!!!
“Noise pollution is a relative thing. In a city, it’s a jet plane taking off. While in a monastery, it’s a pen that scratches.”
Yes friends my today`s Blog is on one of the most disturbing pollution`s, which is diminishing the peace of people`s life. Pollution is nothing but the resources we are not harvesting. We allow them to disperse because we’ve been ignorant of their value.
Noise pollution is a silent killer. It consistently & persistently kills and hurts your emotional & psychological being.
The World Health Organization(WHO), estimated that 1.6 million years of healthy living are lost every year in Europe because of noise pollution.
The noise levels are measured in decibels, the decibel scale goes below zero. The average person can hear sounds down to about 0 db, the level of rustling leaves. Some people with very good hearing capacities can hear sounds down to -15 db. If a sound reaches 85 db or stronger, it can cause permanent damage to your hearing.
Let us see some examples in and around our daily lives and their decibel
Breathing Approx 10 db Barely audible
Whispering Approx 20 db
Quiet rural area. Approx 30 db
Library, bird calls Approx 44 dB
lowest limit of urban ambient sound Approx 40 db
Vacuum cleaner, average radio Approx 70 db
Heavy traffic Approx 80 – 89 db
Now with the above facts and figures..imagine the noise at the construction sites/highways/ Flyovers and Heavy traffic zones. Why are there unduly disturbances and so much of hearing deficiency issues in developing cities and highly developed cities.
Let me share a case study of a place where there is a huge “U” & “T” junction on the flyover and very heavy vehicular traffic through out the day and night in the commercial city like Mumbai. The residents from the building adjacent to this Flyover started complaining to the local municipal authorities due to the increase in the Noise levels. This is the KapurBawdi Bridge, near thane.
The Kapurbawdi bridge has been constructed to ease the traffic congestion. It’s a very long bridge and it links the two main arterial roads of Mumbai, the Eastern Express Highway and the Western Express Highway. The junction where it connects to the Eastern Express Highway at Majiwada, the height of the bridge is also about 25 mtr. from ground level. But for ease of traffic..the noise pollution at this junction is also tremendous.
Mr. Rajan the secretary of an adjacent building : “Ritu Park” took extensive initiative by following up with the local govt bodies to ease the comfort of the building people residing there. After 3 yrs of his toil finally got shaping up and the solution to this problem was NOISE/SOUND BARRIER. Like any other good idea attracts detractors, this was no exception. The detractors did not welcome the idea of noise barrier because they thought it will hinder their scenic beauty. So there comes “Technocrats”.
“Technocrats” growing and keeping up to its principles of Convenience, Hygiene, Peace and Safety..has products like Platform screen doors, Hygiene stations, Noise Barriers, Automation products..and more. therefore we had installed these Noise barriers 4 yrs ago on 3 bridges. Sion Bridge, Hindmata & Tulpule. We were consulted for this specific bridge and our inputs were accepted, leaving few parts of the bridge, we covered the entire area for 1200 sq. mtr. With heights of 3.5 mtr and 1.5 mtrs noise barriers, and today the residential societies adjacent to the flyover were greatly benefited with the reduction in the noise level. And especially at “Ritu Park” Society we were called and even felicitated for the amazing peace of mind we brought in their lives with our product of noise barrier.
